Essential Functions
- Responsible for collaborating closely with building administrators, educators, support staff, families, and students to establish and implement a tiered framework that uses data to meet the needs of each and every student through academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning (SEL) interventions.
- Nurtures a school environment that celebrates, respects, and values diversity, where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
- Initiates activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence of staff, informing and expanding teaching practices within classrooms.
- Subscribe to the notion "student success is a teacher's paramount responsibility".
- Evaluates student performance and progress;
- Uses necessary and appropriate instructional methods and materials, which are suited to the needs of the students and to the nature of the learning activities, program and/or curriculum involved;
- Establishes and implements, in a positive and supportive manner, clear classroom procedures, routines and expectations;
- Provides for the personal and social growth of students;
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
- Assesses student progress, expectations, goals, etc. for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents/guardians and administration.
- Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
- Develops teaching programs (e.g. math, physical education, art, social studies, science, reading, etc.) for the purpose of providing basic subject matter specified by state law and district requirement.
- Facilitates student learning for the purpose of achieving success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study specified by state law and administrative regulations of the district.
- Monitors student activities for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students.
- Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Prepares teaching materials and related reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress.
- Reports incident (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, administrative and/or school policies.
Other Functions
- Serves on staff committees as needed.
- Performs related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.
Qualifications
- Must qualify for a valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law.
- Ability to implement classroom management procedures for large and small groups of students, providing an environment conducive to learning.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and oral form.
- Ability to integrate relevant technology for the purpose of student learning across curricular areas.
- Flexibility and adaptability in varied conditions and settings.
- Ability to assess the needs of students and implement effective lessons to meet those needs through the use of appropriate instructional materials.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff and stakeholders.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, in a mutually respectful, supportive and accessible manner.
- Ability to relate positively to students and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, learning styles and/or disabilities.
- Ability to process information in order to make sound judgments and decisions.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in job related area
