Required Endorsements: WA State Teaching Certificate with appropriate elementary education (K-8) and spanish endorsement (or ability to obtain); multiple subjects endorsment areas such as English as a Second Language (ESL), English Language Learner (ELL), or Bilingual Education endorsement strongly encouraged Essential Functions A classroom teacher: Provides a bilingual instructional program geared to meet the individual needs of students at their instructional level and makes modifications when necessary Teaches elementary content with a high degree of skill which may include an assignment to a combination grade-level classroom Designs learning experiences and assessments that allow students to demonstrate applied skills in Spanish and English Provides a positive environment to celebrate and promote multiculturalism and global competence Quickly learns and infuses emerging technologies into teaching, learning, and assessment Works as an enthusiastic part of a learning-centered environment believing that each student can learn Works collaboratively within the professional learning community to improve instruction, learning, and assessment Maintains effective, positive classroom management Provides a safe environment and handles discipline in a positive manner Actively engage students in using technology in individual and collaborative learning activities Works in a flexible and cooperative manner Treats co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times Serves as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students Maintains regular and punctual attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Collective Bargaining Agreement to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Valid Washington State teaching certificate appropriate for the assignment Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning; Advanced level proficiency in Spanish language on ACTFL written and oral assessments English as a Second Language (ESL), English Language Learner (ELL), or Bilingual Education endorsement, preferred Ability to collaborate in the development, articulation, implementation and stewardship of a K-12 Spanish language learning program Knowledge of instructional practices for Teaching for Biliteracy in Spanish and English Successful teaching experience in elementary grades, preferred Successful experience teaching across diverse populations, preferred Comfortable working in a collaborative environment in a program focused on improving student learning Ability to communicate professionally, positively, and respectfully with students, parents, staff, and community members Demonstrates curiosity and a passion for bilingual learning and believes that learning is a social endeavor Familiarity with a wide variety of teaching techniques which are used to maximize student learning Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills Proven ability to provide an instructional program for students geared to meet their individual needs at their instructional level Willingness and desire to assist a teaching team in implementing an interdisciplinary instructional program Ability to work in a semi-open or self-contained classroom Willingness and desire to collaborate with a professional learning community Willingness to participate in professional development opportunities aligned with school and district initiatives Willingness to communicate in a positive manner with parents Willingness to work closely with instructional committees to research, plan, and implement innovative ways to improve student learning Knowledge of, or experience with, a variety of teaching approaches and content knowledge, i.e. culturally relevant teaching, trauma informed practices, social emotional learning, developing bilingualism, differentiated instruction, formative assessment, math learning progressions etc. Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse Advanced ability to use technology as an effective communication, planning, and instructional tool Willingness to participate in professional development courses aligned with the school and district initiatives Education: Bachelor’s degree in job related area Certificates & Licenses WA State Teaching Certificate with appropriate elementary education (K-8) and spanish endorsement (or ability to obtain);
